GLO/LMC SUPER 4 MATCH DAY 2: 5 TALKING POINTS

image

Two match days have so far been witnessed at the ongoing Glo/LMC Super 4 championship,owngoalnigeria.com takes a look at the talking points.

1. Goalscoring Is Still An Issue In The Nigeria League

The fact that only five goals have been scored so far at the championship proves the issue of goal scoring still persists in our league.

Chances after chances begging to be converted due to poor finishing from the strikers which might hamper their chances of progression on the Africa continent.

2. Nassarawa United Might Be Nigeria’s Best Team On The Africa Continent.

Two games and yet to taste defeat,Nassarawa United level of fitness, hunger and commitment makes them the surest bet among all Nigeria team on the continent judging by their Super 4 showings.

In defence,in midfield and even in attack the boys of Kabiru Dogo have so far looked impressive especially their new found style of pressing their opponents into giving away possession.

3. Maurice Cooreman’s Temper Might Hurt Akwa United

Although he isn’t new to the Nigeria system, coach of Akwa United Maurice Cooreman has a temperament of a novice to the Nigeria League system especially officiating.

In Akwa’s first game a 0-1 loss to Warri Wolves team officials held him from attacking the referee after the game but they were helpless in their second game as the Belgian foul mouth rant at the referee caused him to be sent to the stands.

If not properly checked, his temperament might hurt the team’s chances of progressing in the CAF Confederations cup but as an experienced campaigner on the Africa continent, he is expected to know better.

4. Warri Wolves Have A Lot Of Work To Do

So far they have appear to be the worst in terms of players quality bar the likes of Kelvin Itoya,Semiu Laidi and Michael Okoyoh the rest appear to be players well past their prime and only living off their reputation.

The team presently campaigning in the Super 4 is a far cry from that which almost won the Nigeria Premier League no thanks to so many departures owing to their dire financial condition last season.

This Super 4 should serve as an eye opener to the coaches and management of the team that they have a lot of work to do in defence, midfield and attack ahead of their campaign on the Africa continent.

5. Fitness Still An Issue For Enyimba

Champions of the Nigeria Premier League,Enyimba still have more quality players in their ranks than the rest teams but their low fitness level is affecting their productivity on the pitch.

Their lack of fitness is evident in the way they start off slowly, picked up as the game progresses but finish off poorly and that has cost them big in their last two games.

They conceded after 15 minutes against Akwa United but despite their quality they didn’t have the stamina to push for an equaliser while they scored early against Nassarawa United but tired out and allowed their opponent share the spoils.
