Macauley Chrisantus would have been plying his trade in the la-liga with either Rayo Vallecano,Levante or Getafe were it not for AEK Athens asking price of €350,000 for the 25 year old who has just six months left in his contract.
Owngoalnigeria.com went searching for AEK Athens asking price after his agent revealed his client remained at the second placed Greek team due to their excessive transfer fee demands.
“Macauley is the best child and has not caused the slightest problem. Ask anyone you want at AEK. They told him to leave the group and said OK,” Macauley’s agent said to Sports Day.
“The problem was and why he remains a player of AEK Athens, the club were asking for money, they did not want him to leave free but only with a sale”.
Although all efforts to get to the player proved abortive we reliably gathered only SD Ponferradina were willing to match the asking price of €350,000 but the player vetoed the move and will instead see out the remaining six months of his contract.
We gathered teams like Vitoria Setubal of Portugal and Kaiserslautern of Germany were also willing to pay the price but wanted the player to take a cut in wages as it’s a risk paying that much for a player that will be free in six months time.
Chrisantus have so far scored just once from the eight games he has played for AEK Athens and the club from what we gathered try to sell the player behind his back to Ponferradina and two unnamed teams in the USA and UAE.
