CAF Confederation cup campaigners Akwa United are presently locked in talks with a Ghanian forward to ease their goal scoring worries ahead of the start of next season in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Akwa United have found goals hard to come by during the Super Four preseason tournament which is currently ongoing as they have scored just three goals from the four games they have played in the tournament, a record that made new handler Maurice Cooreman to lament his team poor finishing in front of goal.
Ex-Feyenoord of Holland academy player Abubakar Mahadi owngoalnigeria.com gathered impressed the team handlers during a trial period especially coach Maurice Cooreman who already knew of his abilities during his time in Ghana back then when he was playing for Medeama SC and the Belgian was coaching Ashanti Kotoko.
Cooreman tried to sign the 26 year old during his time at Kaduna United but a proposed loan deal broke down for the well travelled striker who has also have stints in the Ivory Coast and Vietnam but last played for Wassaman Fc in Ghana.
Mahadi will however not be registered in the CAF confederations cup preliminary ames as they have already submitted their list of players ahead of their clash away to Vita Club Mokanda of Congo on the weekend of 12-14 of this month and play the return leg two weeks later in Uyo.
