Akwa United are on the verge of sealing a deal for the first player to score 20 goals in the Nigeria Premier League,Jude Aneke who turned down a paltry salary offered to him by a top division team in Estonia.
Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively report that the former Kaduna United and Warri Wolves striker was in Estonia two weeks ago for talks with a top division team but returned to Nigeria after they offered to pay him €800 monthly.
He returned back to Nigeria two days ago and contrary to statements credited to Akwa United coach, Maurice Cooreman who said the deal for 25 year old is few days away from completion owngoalnigeria.com gathered negotiations for salary and wages will start next week.
Although his good relationship with Cooreman which dates back to 2010 when they both worked at Kaduna United will hasten the deal as he is also eager to work with the man who moulded him from a winger to a striker.
Aneke had his first training session with Akwa United this evening and was all smiles with Cooreman,a coach he has worked with in the last two clubs he has played in Nigeria, Kaduna United and Warri Wolves respectively.
In 2011, a year after helping Kaduna United lift the FA cup he set a new record for goals scored in a single season in the Nigeria Premier league smashing Ahmed Musa one year old record by scoring 20 goals.
