Chelsea John Obi Mikel who have being roundly criticised for fouling Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the freekick that lead to PSG opening goal in their 2-1 loss in the UEFA Champions League have defended himself over the incident.

Mikel who deflected Ibrahimovic freekick into his own net said in the post match interview that he fouled the big Swede because he was going close to their 18 yard box.

“I had to foul Ibrahimovic because he was going deeper and deeper into our 18 yard box. I had to, If not get the ball, foul him” He said.

He rounded up by summing up how disappointed he was to see his side concede a second goal and lose the tie 2-1 ahead of the second leg in a fortnight at Stamford Bridge.

“We came back strong. We are disappointed to have lost the game”.

Chelsea will have all to play for thanks to the solitary strike from the Nigerian which leaves them with a simple easy to the eye task of scoring just a goal in the second leg to secure progression to the quater-finals of the Champions League.
