Newly invited Super Eagles forward Fanendo Adi celebrated his maiden call up to the Nigeria senior national team by scoring the winner for Portland Timbers in their 2-1 win over Columbus Crew.

The Nigerian struck with ten minutes to go to give Portland Timbers all three points in their first MLS game of the new season after Columbus Crew Federico Higuain has cancelled out Diego Valeri opener in the 68th minute.

Last season the former Dynamo Kiev man scored 18 times in the league and his form earned him his maiden call up to the Nigeria senior national team ahead of the AFCON 2017 qualifiers against Egypt in March.

25 year old Adi wasn’t the only Nigerian on target on the first match day of the MLS season as Kennedy Igboananike also scored for Chicago Fire although they lost 3-4 to New York City FC.
