The 68th edition of the prestigious Viareggio cup started yesterday with 8 matches played on day one and in one of those games Nigeria teen David Okereke of Spezia won the man of the match award.

Okereke a product of Football Academy Abuja scored twice for Spezia youth team to help them thrash APIA Leichhardt 5-0.

He displayed physical strength, technique and speed for the goals he scored in the 51st and 82nd minutes in the tournament that has a regulation time of 80 minutes and not the standard 90 minutes.

His first goal came via a penalty he won and neatly tucked in while his second was a sheer combination of speed, strength and skills to kill off the Australian side.

At the end of match day one he was selected as one of the eight MVP of the first games of the tournament.

Okereke is widely tipped to follow in the footsteps of Sadiq Umar and Nura Abdullahi who started off at Serie B side Spezia but are presently playing for top Serie A side Roma.
