The champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League Enyimba FC of Aba are through to the next round of the CAF Champions league despite losing 2-1 to 10 man Vital’O of Burundi.
Enyimba took the lead in the 26th minute courtesy Ikechukwu Ibenegbu who finished nicely from a cross from Joseph Osadiaye to stun the capacity home crowd.
Vital’O brought the stadium back to life with an equaliser four minutes later courtesy of Shasiri Nahimana who volleyed home to see both team head into the half time break level at 1-1.
Five minutes after the hour mark Vital’O took the lead with a simple tap in when Laudit Mavugo was left unmarked in the box of Enyimba but any hope of a fairtale turn around of the 5-1 hammering they suffered in the first round was dashed two minutes later.
Goalkepper Mac Arthur Arakza was sent off for making a save outside the box to stop Leonard Ugochukwu from meeting a through pass and Enyimba hanged on to run out 2-6 winner on aggregate and passage to the next round.
