There was drama at the airport in Abuja when new Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS) signing Paul Onobi refused to board the flight to Finland after receiving his work permit to officially start his career as a player of the club.
23 year old Onobi insist on his sign on fees being paid to him in full before he leaves Nigeria while KupS insist they will only pay him his entitlement in Finland.
The logjam made him to abandon the flight despite signing a one and half year deal which was announced on the club website and only the duo of Aliyu Abubakar and Gbolahan Salami boarded the flight.
Salami and Aliyu are already in Finland alongside Azubuike Egwuekwe who scored on his debut to help them crush Mikkeli 3-0 in a cup game.
A member of Nigeria’s team to CHAN 2016 he has two caps for the Super Eagles but wasn’t invited by new coach Samson Siasia for the games against Egypt in March.
Locally he represented Sunshine Stars last season but has turned out for Warri Wolves and Enyimba in the past.
