Chelsea of England midfielder Mikel Obi says Egypt cheated to score the goal that helped them hold the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a 1-1 draw in an AFCON 2017 qualifiers.
Mikel faulted Egypt’s refusal to respect the rule of fair play when they opted to pass and score instead of passing the ball back to Nigeria who put the ball into touch for defender Godfrey Obaboana to receive treatment.
“Fair play is fair play and you have to respect that regardless of what as far as am concern they are cheats, this is cheating it’s a pity that at this level a team will do such” He blasted at the post match conference.
“Yes we should have done better with our marking but still none of us expected them to do such a thing, surprisingly the referee did nothing to correct the anomaly, this is a clear act of cheating”.
Nigeria will travel on Monday to take on Egypt in the reverse fixture and Mikel is optimistic that they will shock them at their backyard.
“They didn’t do anything to suggest they are better than us, we are going to Alexandria with the hope of beating them in front of their fans”.
