18 year old Nigeria forward David Okereke made his competitive debut for Serie B side Spezia playing the last five minutes of their 1-0 win over Novarra.

Plucked from Spezia nursery team in Nigeria, Football Academy Abuja, he was the star of the youth team of the Serie B side during the prestigious Viareggio Youth Cup scoring four times aside picking up man of the match awards.

Okereke was suppose to travel to Italy with Nigeria U-17 world cup winner Orji Okonkwo but the 17 year old skipped the trip while he made the journey and he is slowly making inroads into the first team set up.

His fine form has already lead to talks of him leading the frontline of Spezia next season but it appears he might even achieve that before the end of the season.

Spezia will be hoping he grows at same pace if not better than Sadiq Umar and Nura Abdullahi who are presently on loan to Serie A side Roma in a deal that could see the Serie B side make more than 4 million pounds if as expected Roma take up the option of buying the duo permanently in the summer.
