Nigeria’s only remaining representative in CAF club competitions Enyimba FC of Aba got their CAF Champions League campaign underway on a shaky note losing 0-1 to Egyptian giants Zamalek.

The People’s Elephant playing at the Adokiye Amasiemieka Stadium in Porthacourt struggled to cope with the harsh playing condition of the turf due to heavy rainfall but the visitors made the most of it to score the game’s lone goal in the 8th minute.

Bassem Morsy well placed header flew past Theophilus Afelokhai to give Zamalek a first half lead which they protected until the half time break despite efforts from Kelly Kester and Joseph Osadiaye.

Ifeanyi Onuigbo missed a second half chance to draw Enyimba level and despite all efforts by the home team Zamalek brave the odds to pick all three points.

The victory moved Zamalek to second behind group B leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who defeated ES Setif 2-0 away in Algeria with Enyimba third on the log ahead of ES Setif on goal difference.
