The Nigeria Football Federation says the final decision on the proposed invitation of Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom and Hull City full back Moses Odubajo to the Super Eagles will be taken by the incoming coach of the team.
The duo who have played for England at various youth level are rumoured to be willing to switch allegiance to Nigeria with some reports even suggesting they could be in Nigeria’s next squad for the Africa Cup of Nations dead rubber tie against Tanzania.
However a member of the Technical Committee of the football body in Nigeria is of the opinion that a final decision on their inclusion will have to be taken by the coach which the NFF will appoint in two weeks time according to various reports.
“We have gotten assurances that they (Akpom and Odubajo) want to play for Nigeria, we are excited over their decision to switch allegiance to Nigeria but the final decision on if they will play for us before the end of this year rest with the incoming coach” A member of the Technical Committee of the NFF told Owngoalnigeria.com
He further revealed that the committee is pressing ahead to ensure that more players eligible for Nigeria are discovered for the Nation following the success of Alex Iwobi with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
