The childhood coach of Academica of Portugal midfielder Obiora Nwankwo, Matthew Sunday has revealed to Owngoalnigeria.com that the 24 year old is few details away from joining newly promoted Portuguese top flight team Desportivo De Chaves.
Obiora had an injury hit season during the 2015/2016 season making just 11 appearances for Academica who were relegated at the end of last season.
However according to Matthew, he will have another crack in the top flight of Portuguese football as he is set to join GD Chaves as a free agent.
“It’s a done deal the last time I checked, he is joining Chaves as a free player following the expiration of his two year deal with Academica who were relegated last season” He told Owngoalnigeria.com.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner has in the past defended the colours of Serie A giants Inter Milan and also had two loan spells with Parma before moving to Romanian side CFR Cluj where he left after two seasons on a free to Spanish second division side Cordoba.
However in the summer of 2014/2015 season despite Cordoba gaining promotion the Nigerian was released by the team after playing just six matches in the entire season.
