MEXICO 1-0 NIGERIA: BUENO STRIKE AS SIASIA’S MISERY CONTINUES WITH NIGERIA U-23s

A second half goal from Marco Bueno gave the Mexico Under-23 a 1-0 victory over their Nigerian counterpart in a tune up friendly ahead of the Olympics in Rio 2016.

The first 45 minutes saw no goals with Nigeria creating almost nothing in terms of goal scoring opportunities while Mexico struck the woodwork and were denied from having a first half lead by some smart goalkeeping from Emmanuel Daniel in goal for Nigeria.

Daniel twice came out of his line to good effect to claim crosses that would have slipped for a tap in from the Mexicans and he pulled up another one on one save to help Nigeria end the half 0-0.

A much improved Mexican side returned from the half time break and dominated the Nigerians and 20 minutes into the half a cross from Carlos Cisneros was powerfully headed home pass substitute goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi by Marco Bueno at close range to give the Mexicans the lead.

Samson Siasia’s men struggled to sufficiently trouble the backline of the Mexicans and were lucky not to have fallen further behind when Saturday Keigo almost scored an own goal in his bid to cut out a cross.

Mexico struck the wood work once again with Daniel beaten and it was the last meaningful chance of the game with the Mexicans hanging on to claim a 1-0 win over Nigeria piling further misery on Nigeria U-23s coach Samson Siasia ahead of the Olympics.

Nigeria still have two warm up games to play against Honduras and local side Charleston Battery before they fly out to Brazil for the Olynpics where they are in group B alongside Japan,Colombia and Sweden.
