Relatively unknown Nigerian forward Karim Onisiwo might have a big breakthrough next season at German Bundesliga side Mainz 05 following his strong showing in pre season games.
Onisiwo scored and set up another in yesterday’s 7-0 victory over FV Biebrich in a pre season game hot on the heels of his impressive showing for the team in their Wednesday game against RWO Alzey which they won 5-0 although he didn’t score, he hit the woodwork twice and was impressive all through.
Born to a Nigerian father in Austria he has represented his land of birth in U-21 games but he is yet to make his competitive debut for the senior team as he only played in a friendly game against Switzerland which makes him eligible for Nigeria at senior level.
He is teammate to Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun which could swing his international future in favour of Nigeria most especially if the fair skinned Eagle put in a word to him to switch allegiance to the West Africa nation.
24 year old Onisiwo joined Mainz 05 from Mattersburg of Austria in January and made nine appearances last season scoring once in the process in the game against Stuttgart which they won 3-1.
