Former Super Eagles forward Yakubu Aiyegbeni failed to hit the back of the net on his return to English Football losing 5-0 with Boreham Wood to his former side Reading FC.
33 year old Yakubu is currently with the 5th tier English side and was handed a start in their first pre season game but the Nigerian who is well respected in England for his goal scoring prowess was withdrawn after an hour without a goal to his name.
However he showed flashes of his old self that made him a feared forward during his time with Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn Rovers in the English top flight.
Yakubu forced goalkepper Al-Habsi into a save from a shot in the box in the 30th minute and used his body to good effect in holding up play and bringing his teammates into play.
He left the pitch to a warm handshake from new Reading manager the legendary Jaap Staam formerly of Manchester United.
Last season the second all time top scorer in the Nigeria senior national team played for Turkish side Kayserispor where he made 12 appearances without finding the back of the net.
