Per a statement on their official website, Portuguese second division side Portimonense has confirmed that Nigerian forward Simmy Nwankwo turned down a move to Serie A side Crotone.
Simmy top scorer in the Portuguese second division last season joined Portimonense from Gil Vicente two months ago but Crotone who are in the market for a forward slapped in a bid for him few days ago.
The newly promoted Serie A side who failed in their bid to lure another Nigerian in Sadiq Umar of Roma according to Portimonense made an official proposal for the transfer of Simmy but the Nigerian turned it down.
According to the statement, the 23 year old believes in the project of the Portuguese team and wants to be a part of them for the 2016/2017 season despite the tempting nature of the offer from the Serie A side.
He will lead the frontline for Portimonense in their bid to gain promotion to the top division in Portugal alongside fellow Nigerian Stanley Awurum, another player signed this summer from Varzim.
