Head coach of the Nigeria U-17 team Manu Garba is refusing to be carried away by his team goal scoring run in their first two friendly games as he believes a lot still need to be done before their qualifiers against Niger Republic next month.
The new assembled U-17 team have been scoring goals for fun and conceding few in return since they start playing test games after a one month screening exercise at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja.
In two games against none league sides, they have scored 11 goals without conceding any but the coach is insisting there’s still work to be done before they begin their 2017 Africa Youth Championship Qualifiers with a game against Niger Republic.
” We have absolute confidence in the players we have selected for the U-17s and with their recent results it shows they are almost learning to play the way we want them to but there’s still a lot to work on, we are not close to getting what we want from them, they obviously can do more” Coach Manu told Owngoalnigeria.com.
“In the games we have played so far, we could have scored more and we could have conceded as well, those little margins we have to work on it before our first qualifiers, the team is still a work in progress but we are ahead of time in terms of preparations for the Niger game”.
