Az Alkmaar first Nigerian since Mike Obiku and Pius Ikedia,Friday Fred started in his quest to better the achievement of the other Nigerians to have played at the club with a brace on his debut.
Already his dazzling start has lead to comparism with the two other Nigerians who have played for the club in the past in Obiku and Ikedia with both players enduring varying degree of success at the AFAS Stadion.
Ikedia spent two unhappy years at AZ making just 12 appearances from 2005-2007 before he was loaned out by the team and subsequently released in the summer of 2007.
Obiku on his part spent just a year with AZ from 1998-1997 at the twilight of his career scoring two league goal in the 13 games he played for the team, a year before he retired from football after another year in Cyprus.
Summer signing Fred, the third Nigerian on the club books in their history will be hoping to fare better than the other two Nigerians who have played for the team and the forward has taken a walk in the right direction.
