Newly promoted Serie A side Crotone latest signing Simmy Nwankwo says the opportunity to play in a big league like the Italian Serie A made him had a change of mind about staying with Portimonense.
The 24 year old initially turned down the offer from the Serie A side much to the delight of second division Portuguese side Portimonense who posted his willingness to stay with them despite the offer on their official site.
However less than 72 hours after they posted his denial, the forward who only joined the club a month ago from Gil Vicente arrived Italy for medicals with same side he turned down after a fee was agreed for his transfer.
Speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com, the last season top scorer in the Portuguese second division said the lure of playing in the Serie A made him had a change of mind.
“I later realised you don’t always get the chance to move to a league like the Serie A and the project on offer by Crotone is something I have faith in, I love Portugal and will always appreciate the good times I had there but it’s time for a new chapter” He told Owngoalnigeria.com
In his five year stay in Portugal, he scored a total of 45 goals from 144 games during stints with Portimonense where he started his career and Gil Vicente.
