According to reports exclusively gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com, Head Coach of the Super Eagles Salisu Yusuf has concluded plans to have five players from the Nigeria Under-20s train with the Super Eagles.
Yusuf wants the players in camp ahead of the September 2nd tie against Tanzania Nigeria’s Final AFCON 2017 qualifiers, which has no significance as Nigeria are already out of the race to be at next year Africa Cup of Nations.
The coach who will later this month lead a team of players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to Spain for a pre season tournament has pencilled down top striker Victor Osimhen,Arsenal bound Kelechi Nwakali and defence hardman Lukman Zakari to train with the Eagles.
” Already Salisu is planning for the future, the Flying Eagles kids will train with the team ahead of the Tanzania game, it’s not like they are in contention to play but he wants to give them a feel of what the future holds for them” a source close to the coach told Owngoalnigeria.com
“The practice is not entirely new to Nigeria football but it has not just been in use the last few years, Kanu Nwankwo trained with the Super Eagles before World Cup 94 just after the Under-17 World Cup, In 2008 Rabiu Ibrahim trained with the Super Eagles too after winning the Under-17 World Cup.
“It’s usually the standard practice worldwide and Salisu Yusuf wants to introduce it here because it increases the player’s profile, works on their confidence which could in the long run help their career grow”.
