Manager of Arsenal Arsene Wenger, has played down suggestions that Nigerian duo of Alex Iwobi and Chuba Akpom could lead Arsenal attack next season, before key players reach the require fitness level to challenge for a spot in the team.
The duo partnered each other in attack during their formative years at Arsenal. Akpom is back at Arsenal after a loan spell with Hull City, while Iwobi established himself as a starter with the first team during the second half of last season.
Fielding questions from journalist on the prospect of the duo leading the line for Arsenal next season, Wenger, who was pleased with Akpom for scoring the winning goal in their 2-1 pre season win over MLS All Stars revealed there isn’t much to read into the childhood friends playing together in the game.
“At the moment, I do not have too many attacking options. Let’s not forget that there are still a few players at home, and that a few players didn’t play today, like Cazorla. Then of course you have Ozil and Ramsey at home, even Giroud is not here. We have options, but we still look outside to find one more.”
