Contrasting Fortunes For Nigerian Teens At Liverpool


It is more like a case of different tales for different folks as regards the career of the Nigerian contingent at English Premier League side Liverpool.


Presently Nigeria youth international Taiwo Awoniyi, is close to agreeing a loan move to Dutch side NEC Nijmegen leaving the quartet of Thiago Ilori,Seyi Ojo,Ovie Ejaria and Bobby Adekanye as the Nigerians at the club.

However Ejaria,18, and Ojo,19, who are the closest to the first team are currently out injured, nursing different kind of injuries, with Ejaria still out from a knock picked up during Liverpool pre season game against Chelsea.

Ojo, who had his breakthrough at the club last season, was yesterday confirmed out for a month after having a scan that revealed a fracture in his back.

Ilori, who played for Portugal at the Rio 2016 Olympics before their semi-final defeat to Portugal is still on extended leave, but his future at the club is misty, as he has failed to break into the team since joining them two summers ago.

It’s not all gloom for the Nigerians at the club, as former Barcelona youth prospect Bobby Adekanye has recovered from a series of multiple injuries that has ravaged his career since joining the team last summer.

17 year old Adekanye shone in Liverpool U18s emphatic 4-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in their opening league game at Kirkby on Monday.
