Despite having a satisfactory 1-0 win over Tanzania in his first game as coach of the Nigeria senior national team, Gernot Rohr says there is still work to be done on some areas in the team before the start of qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup.
Rohr upon taking over the team pointed out the defence of the team as one area, that needs urgent attention and already from the performance of Leon Balogun and William Troost Ekong, the German appears to have started work in earnest on the back line.
However from the game against Tanzania, he has found out another aspect of the team that requires urgent attention before the start of the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in October.
” If there’s anything I wasn’t happy about, it was the numerous chances we failed to convert, it shows we still have work to do in terms of scoring goals, not much work since we are creating the chances” He said to Owngoalnigeria.com.
” Our conversion rate wasn’t the best considering the amount of chances we created against Tanzania, why you will want to credit their goalkepper for been at his best, our forwards should have done better with the chances they had.
” In qualifiers, you need to take advantage of your chances when you have them, as every single point counts. We have to focus on that aspect before the game against Zambia”.
