According to leaks gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com, a new face could be in the mix when the list of players for Nigeria’s first 2018 World Cup qualifiers is released next week.
Head coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has kept the names on the list close to his chest but news coming out has it that, he has asked the Nigeria Football Federation to be on standby as they could be needed to file a case to FIFA over Kelvin Akpoguma who appears to have had a change of heart.
Akpoguma has in the past maintained a strong desire to continue playing for Germany after progressing through their youth ranks but after talks with Rohr and his parents. The 21 year old could be included in Nigeria’s list for their World Cup qualifiers.
Rohr and Akpoguma have come a long way right from when he was in charge of the youth set up of Germany. A tie he has used in good effect to force the on loan Fortuna Dusseldorf defender into having a rethink about his senior international future.
So far, Akpoguma has been a stalwart at the back for second division German side Fortuna Dusseldorf playing every single minutes of their first five games of the season.
