Nigeria U-23 forward Ubong Ekpai who is famed for scoring the lone goal that gave Nigeria U23s a 1-0 win over Brazil in a friendly game before the Rio Olympics, was one of the stars for Slovenian side Slovan Liberec in their Europa League tie against Qarabag.
A shock omission from the Nigerian male football team to the Olympic in Rio, Ekpai who is on loan to Slovan Liberec from Israeli side Maccabi Haifa, proved his worth as his team romp to a 3-0 win over Qarabag.
Although he didn’t get on the score sheet, the 21 year old was one of the liveliest player on the pitch for his side, defending and attacking whenever the need arises during interval of the game.
His performance in the game will no doubt enhance his chances of establishing himself in the team, where he will spend one year on loan to help him settle to the demands of European football.
The former Akwa United man has made two appearances in the Europa League but just like his form in front of goal in the league, he is still waiting for his first goal for the team.
