The giant killing run of Serie B Spezia continued in the Coppa Italia with Nigerian forward David Okereke netting one of the spot kicks that helped them knock out Palermo 5-4 on penalties.
Okereke was among the goal scorers when they beat Udinese 3-2 to eliminate the Serie A side from the tournament. Their giant killing run has attracted lot of attention in Italy particularly the performance of Okereke.
Nicknamed Sadiq Umar II by the Spezia hierarchy, a name he was given as he appears to be following in the foot steps of Bologna forward Sadiq Umar, who moved to Serie A giants Roma from Spezia.
19 year old Okereke has so far made 10 appearances in the Serie B for Spezia, and even though he is still searching for his first goal in the league, he has distinguished himself playing from the flanks than his usual top striker role.
He is one among three Nigerians presently on the books of the team with Tahir Maigini and Abdullahi Suleiman completing the roll call of Nigerians at the serie A team, all plucked from Football Academy Abuja.
