Manager of Manchester City has warned his defenders to keep a close watch on Eden Hazard and Pedro Rodriguez when they take on league leaders Chelsea this weekend.
However his stand is contrary to that of Manchester City legend Shaun Goater who in his preview named Victor Moses as the man, who makes things work for Chelsea in the final third.
” Victor Moses is a defender, midfielder, wingback and a forward wrapped in one, he is on a high, he works well and allow Pedro space to do the damage. Keeping him quiet is key to beating Chelsea” he said.
Guardiola in his pre match briefing took a different approach by pointing out Pedro and Hazard as the players to keep an eye on when both teams clash at the Etihad.
“We will be cautious not to conceded [space to] Pedro and Hazard, and maybe Willian in the second-half.
“They are so, so good at using the counter-attack we want to control that aspect and create our chances. Hopefully our talented players in the middle and upfront can decide the game.”
Asked about Pedro, a player he managed during his time at Barcelona, Guardiola was full of praise.
He is likely to start for Antonio Conte’s side after a run of fine form in recent weeks.
“I hope he doesn’t perform well tomorrow,” he said. “I have to thank him, he made me a better manager. He works great between the lines, near the box he’s a killer. He is one of the quickest players when it’s time to shoot.”
