Super Eagles reliable defender Leon Balogun put up a not too convincing performance as Mainz 05 crumble 1-3 at home to Bayern Munich.
The Nigerian defender was giving the job of keeping Polish forward Robert Lewandoski quiet and while he won some of his one on one duel with the forward, he failed to stop him from scoring a brace.
Lewandoski drew Bayern level after Jhon Cordoba has given Mainz 05 the lead four minutes into the game. Arjen Robben ensured the Bavarians go into the break leading 2-1 with a 21st minute strike.
Balogun had a better second half than the first as he frustrated Lewandoski and got the striker booked for a foul on him in the 76th minute of play, but the Bundesliga feared marksman had the last laugh.
On the dot of regulation time, Balogun fouled the forward around his team penalty area and the Polish forward stepped up to curl in the resultant freekick, to kill off any hope of a late fight back from Mainz 05.
