Super Eagles forward Moses Simon put up a man of the match display to help Gent beat Club champions of Belgium Brugge 2-0.
Simon started on the left flank of a three man attack, and was by far the best player on the pitch for Gent, who also had Samuel Kalu in the starting line up.
Kalu operated from the right and gave a good account of himself before he was substituted with six minutes left to play.
Meanwhile Anderson Esiti was introduced a minute into the second half, while William Troost-Ekong was an unused substitute despite earning rare reviews for his performance on his debut last weekend.
The other Nigerian at the club Rabiu Ibrahim is still out injured and wasn’t listed in the match day squad. The win brightens the chances of Gent qualifying for the play-offs.
