Coach of the Nigeria senior national team Gernot Rohr says he has found new defenders who will improve the team in their Nations Cup 2019 and World Cup 2018 qualifiers.
Rohr made this known during an interview in Gabon, where he is presently working as a TV pundit at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in the absence of Nigeria.
“It is an interesting challenge, to have a new team, a young team, to build a team with players who really have the spirit of the country, who want to play, to fight, to give their all, who don’t want to speak about material things, but who are here because they want to play for their country,” Rohr said.
“We have a good captain with experience we have found some defenders to make us stronger at the back and I think the spirit and harmony of the team is very good. But we know the important times come now.”
Even though he didn’t give out the names of the players he has added to the defence of the team, the Franco German manager has few weeks ago confirmed Dutch-Nigerian full back Tyrone Ebuehi as one of the players he plans adding to his team.
He also revealed that he is doing his frustration over the duration of time needed to get a Nigerian passport for players born outside Nigeria, which kind of suggested that he is talking about Russian-Nigerian defender Brian Idowu.
The duo are possibly the addition he is talking about base on the above statements, but in the coming days especially the friendly game against Senegal will go a long way in revealing more about his defensive additions.
