The Super Eagles of Nigeria have suffered a big setback ahead of their first AFCON 2019 Qualifiers against South Africa scheduled to take place on the 10th of June in Uyo.
Captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria John Obi Mikel has officially pulled out of the squad for the game after suffering a setback in his recovery from what has been diagnosed as a serious muscle tear on his thigh.
Mikel resumed light training, but still travelled to the England to see a specialist where it was revealed to him that he will undergo surgery which will rule him out of action for two months.
His Chinese side Tianjin Teda will in the coming days make an announcement on the injury, which will no doubt rock their season considering how well he has settled down in his new surroundings.
For Nigeria, he will most certainly miss the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers tie against South Africa. A move which will no doubt affect the plans of coach of the senior national team Gernot Rohr.
