Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has ruled out first choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme from the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers against South Africa next month.
Ikeme missed the concluding part of the season for English Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers due to an injury, and Rohr confirms that the shot stopper will not be fit for the game against South Africa.
Nigeria will start the journey to the next Africa Cup of Nation with a clash against South Africa on June 10 in Uyo, but will have to do so without their first choice shot stopper according to the coach.
” Ikeme won’t make it for the South Africa game. He is still injured and won’t be fully fit for the game against South Africa. We don’t see it as a problem because we have other goalkeepers who can come in and do well”, Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” We hope to have him back for our game against Cameroon in September and not for the South Africa game. The three goalkeepers we have in the team all have a chance of keeping goal in Uyo”.
