The reason behind the calling up of just two goalkeepers to the Super Eagles team for the training camp in France, and the game against Corsica has been unravelled.
The Super Eagles team of 22 players released by coach Gernot Rohr had only two goalkeepers in it, a situation which has brought about discussions from some section of the press in Nigeria.
Owngoalnigeria.com editorial team gathered the aim behind it was for the coach to give the duo of Dele Alampasu and Ikechukwu Ezenwa the chance to stake a claim in the team, as they have been a part of the team for some time now.
Furthermore the injury to goalkeeper Carl Ikeme which ruled him out of the camp and the friendly game, and also the AFCON 2017 qualifiers against South Africa also helped the cause of the two goalkeepers called up.
Regular back up goalie Daniel Akpeyi will also be absent due to club commitments with PSL side Chippa United. Club also ruled out ex Nigeria U-23 shot stopper Emmanuel Daniel.
The duo are now in a straight battle for who will deputise for Akpeyi who will return for the game against South Africa in Uyo on the 10th of June.
