Super Eagles of Nigeria defender Chidozie Awaziem will in the coming days join Nantes of France on a season long loan from Portuguese giants FC Porto, owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively confirm.

Nantes demanded for the Super Eagles defender as part of the deal for their former coach Sergio Conceiao to join FC Porto, a request Porto yielded to but not in totality.

The French Ligue 1 side wanted an option to buy the player permanently after his loan spell but Porto refused and instead loaned him to them for a season while they cover the majority of his wages.

20 year old Awaziem who made his competitive debut for Nigeria in their 0-2 loss to South Africa in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers is officially the first signing of newly appointed coach of Nantes Claudio Ranieri.

The defender who didn’t cover himself in glory in Nigeria’s defeat to South Africa over the weekend is rated highly by the Porto hierarchy, and currently has a buy out clause pegged at €20m.
