Former FC Porto defensive midfielder Fidelis Irhene has been officially unveiled by Cypriot side Apollon Limassol, according to pictures sent by the player to Owngoalnigeria.com.
Irhene spent three years on the books of the Portuguese giants, but spent two seasons on loan to Portimonense where he helped them gain promotion to the top division in Portugal.
However he left the club for Apollon Limassol after his return to Porto as Portimonense didn’t renew his loan deal, while Porto failed to guarantee him a spot in their first team.
Speaking on why he opt to join the Cypriot side, Irhene who is also comfortable as a central defender said he snubbed Belgium side Kortrijk for Apollon Limassol due to the fact that they will be playing in the Europa League.
” It wasn’t a very easy decision to make because Kortrijk have already contacted me even before the season ended in Portugal, but I have to settle for Apollon Limassol because they are in the Europa League “, he told Owngoalnigeria.com in an exclusive interview.
