As the wait continues for FIFA to approve the international switch of Chelsea defender Ola Aina from England to Nigeria, Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi has spoken out on his closeness with the Chelsea full back.
Like Aina, Iwobi represented England at youth level before making the switch to Nigeria at senior level, and he is presently viewed as one of the senior players of the team.
Aina accepted to dump England where he has played at various youth levels for Nigeria, but his switch is yet to be ratified by FIFA, which means he can’t make his debut anytime soon.
Iwobi speaking to pitchingitblack recalls how it was for him growing up alongside Aina, who could be his international teammate anytime soon.
“I’m good friends with Ola Aina at Chelsea. We actually grew up together – lived on the same road, went to the same school. Kelechi Iheanacho at Man City is another good friend. He was actually at the house recently to eat. I’ve got some good friends in football. Even my friends that don’t play, they’re still around me to this day. They haven’t changed on me once.”
