Kelechi Iheanacho imminent transfer to Leicester City from Manchester City wouldn’t have been possible if not for the intervention of his Nigeria national team close friend Wilfred Ndidi.
Ndidi and Iheanacho are very close right from when their path first crossed in the camp of the Nigeria U17 team in 2013, before circumstances ruled Ndidi out of the tournament while Iheanacho went on to become the star of the Championship.
However the duo were were once again back to their friendship of old at the camp of the Nigeria U-20 team in 2014, a bond which they maintained even when they made the step up to the senior national team of Nigeria.
A West Ham source said Iheanacho’s eagerness to be close to Ndidi was the trump card for the Foxes, who were able to complete the deal for the striker ahead of the Hammers who have been on his trail for six weeks.
Iheanacho had a chat with Ndidi before making up his mind about joining him at Leicester City and sources close to the player revealed he walked out of a potential move to West Ham and not the other way round like some have speculated.
