A top source at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed to this portal that coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has no plans to call ex Super Eagles goalkeepers Dele Aiyenugba and Austin Ejide.
The name of the duo has popped up as possible solution to the goalkeeper crisis currently rocking the senior national team of Nigeria after first choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
However a source at the NFF revealed at no time did the manager asked the federation to contact the duo over a possible recall to the team ahead of their upcoming World Cup 2018 Qualifiers against Cameroon.
” No, Rohr has not asked for the duo to be contacted. This reports are laughable to say the least but sometimes you never can say never. Rohr will definitely have the final say”, the source told Owngoalnigeria.com.
While a return for Ejide and Aiyenugba have been partly ruled out, it appears the manager is willing to hand Emmanuel Daniel of Orlando Pirates the chance to stake a claim for the Eagles number one spot.
We gathered Rohr has been in touch with the 22 year old who impressed the coach with his performance during the Rio 2016 Olympics, but wasn’t handed a call up due to his inactivity at club level.
It’s still not clear if Rohr is planning on calling him to the Super Eagles for the back to back game against Cameroon, or if the Franco-German coach is just keeping in touch like he does with most of the players who have trained with him in the past.
