Coach of Manchester City Pep Guardiola has confirmed the departure of Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho from the club, but didn’t mention his possible destination.
Speaking at a press conference in the US, Guardiola explained the reason behind the omission of some players from the squad that went on tour, while also confirming the possible signing of some players.
While top striker Sergio Aguero is set to stay at Etihad Stadium, Kelechi Iheanacho is close to completing a £25m move to Leicester City.
The 20-year-old has scored 21 goals in 64 games in all competitions since making his debut in 2015, but Guardiola said he need to move to where he can play and develop further.
”Kelechi is close to a move, it should be done in 10 days,” said Guardiola.
“It is an honour to work with him. It’s not easy for him as he didn’t get a lot of chances (in the team), but his behaviour was good.
“Kelechi’s a young player. He needs to play at that age and that’s why he, and the club decided, it was best for him (to leave).”
