Coach of Belgium side Anderlecht Rene Weller has revealed the reason why high profile loan signing Henry Onyekuru was left on the bench for the entire duration of their 0-0 draw against Antwerp.

Anderlecht failed to break down a well organised Antwerp defence in their first league game of the season in defence of the league title they won last season, Onyekuru was an unused substitute in the game.

Signed on loan from Everton, the 20 year old who scored 24 goals for modest Belgium league side Eupen last season was made to watch the entire proceeding of the game from the bench, as Weller opt for last season top scorer ‎Lukas Teodorczyk ahead of the Nigerian.

The decision according to the coach was based on the need to maintain some level of continuity in the team that won the league title last season, but he assured that Onyekuru will no doubt get to play games.

However it is worth remembering that the coach said during their pre season tour that he is not sure Onyekuru will play as a top striker for his team due to the presence of Teodorczyk who scored 22 goals last season, he however hinted at a new role for Onyekuru in the attack of the team.
