The squad of the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the back to back games against Cameroon will consist of players who are active at their clubs, according to coach Gernot Rohr.
In an exclusive chat with Owngoalnigeria.com, the Franco-German coach of the senior national team of Nigeria said he won’t be calling up players who are injured or inactive at their club.
He cited that even though teams are just starting to play competitive games, only players who have taken part in preparations with their clubs, and also play some part in their early games will be considered for call ups.
”I cannot call up injured players, it’s not possible I can only call up players who are fit and are playing. It’s not easy in the beginning of the season because there was a long break and some of them had long training camps “, he said.
“Now they are starting the games they play some games like friendlies just like Alex Iwobi who played very well for Arsenal, of course also now we can call Victor Moses because he was injured last time and now he is fit.
“He is a very good player for us, (Leon) Balogun is also fit, he is experienced and we have also some strikers with a little more experience, Odion Ighalo also not only him. There are also other ones. So I think in the next week we will monitor all of them to be sure, we can take the best ones for these big games against Cameroon”.
The warning will no doubt reduce the chances of Kenneth Omeruo who has been inactive with Chelsea and other players who are not getting games either in pre season or league games which are just starting across Europe.
