Coach of Leicester City Craig Shakespeare has suggested that Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho could play in a role slightly different from partnering Jamie Vardy in attack when they take on Arsenal later today in the opening game of the English Premier League.
As first mentioned by this portal, Leicester City were able to convince the 20 year old to join them ahead of West Ham United after manager Shakespeare offered the Nigerian his favourite role, which is behind the main striker.
While Shakespeare confirmed Iheanacho could partner Jamie Vardy in attack, he also said the Nigerian is versatile as he can play in different roles, even as a play maker and as the lone striker upfront like he did at Manchester City.
‘What I have seen so far I am really impressed with,’ Shakespeare said. ‘I don’t want to put too much pressure on him because he is a young lad, but I like his character. Just as importantly his quality of play has been there for all to see.
‘Hopefully in 12 months we will be sitting here and he has got a hatful of goals and he has been a team player.
Kelechi can play with Jamie, as we saw in his cameo last Friday night. But I think he is versatile to play in different positions. He has done that at Man City. We have got strength in depth in forward positions.’
