Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel secured a slim 2-1 win over Maribor of Slovenia in the first leg tie of their UEFA Champions League Qualification clash at the Turner Stadium in Beersheba Israel.
28 year old Nigerian forward Anthony Nwakaeme set them on the path to victory with a goal in the 12th minute of the game. His 4th goal in five games in the UEFA Champions League Qualification.
He has found the back if the net in their previous games, with a brace against Honved and one against Ludogorets Razgard. A form which means he has scored in all but two games for the team so far.
Heavily linked with a call up to the senior national team of Nigeria like his team-mate John Ogu, coach of the Nigeria senior national team Gernot Rohr is yet to look in his direction despite his fine form.
Last season he scored 14 goals for Be’er Sheva who were crowned champions for the second consecutive season, he was also voted the best player in the Israeli league last season.
