Coach of English Premier League side Leicester City has given his take on the goal scored by out of favour Nigerian forward Ahmed Musa in their 4-1 win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.
Musa who is yet to make the matchday squad for Leicester City in the two games they have played so far in the English Premier League was on from start to finish in the game.
Craig Shakespeare while expressing his delight at the manner in which they secured the victory which qualified them for the third round of the competition revealed that some players have played themselves into his plans for the season.
He said he used the game to give game time to some players who have not had sufficient game time this season, and express his joy at how they performed before speaking on the goal scored by Ahmed Musa.
“We spoke at half time about being more ruthless,” Shakespeare told LCFC TV. “We had some chances in the first half where we weren’t ruthless enough. We’ve had Demarai Gray who is one of our best one-on-one players, taking people on. He was very calm and produced an excellent finish.
“Then Islam Slimani popped up with two goals and I was pleased for Ahmed Musa at the end because he kept going and kept plugging away. His persistence paid off. It was important that we went through, and we did.”
