Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has praised the central defence pairing of William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun which is popularly referred to as “Oyinbo Wall” by a section of the Nigerian populace.
The duo of Balogun and Ekong are the favourite central defence pair of the Franco-German since he took over as coach, and yesterday just like the game against Algeria they stood tall for Nigeria.
They dovetailed nicely to keep the forwards of Cameroon at bay as the Super Eagles secured a 4-0 win over Cameroon to go within touching distance of qualifying for the World Cup 2018 in Russia.
“Balogun is our German Machine and we are glad to have him back. We lacked steel in the defence against South Africa and now, his partnership with (William) Troost-Ekong helped us win the game.”
Rohr however sounded a note of caution that the return of both players will only be worthwhile if every other person does their part of the job.
“Of course nothing is guaranteed but their presence gives us confidence to approach the game with a positive mentality,” he concluded.
