Rohr Expects Ikeme To Be Fit If Nigeria Make It To World Cup 2018

Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr is hopeful that sick goalkeeper of the senior national team of Nigeria Carl Ikeme will be fit for Nigeria if they make it to the World Cup 2018 in Russia.

Ikeme was diagnosed with Leukaemia few months ago during a routine medical with his English Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers, and it lead to a mini crisis for Nigeria in the goalkeeping department.

Rohr who has since initiated talks with former Nigeria captain and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama is however hopeful that Ikeme will return on time ahead of their campaign at the World Cup 2018 in Russia.

According to the Franco-German coach, Ikeme is responding positively to treatment, and if all goes according to plan, he will definitely be in the Nigerian team for the World Cup, where they need one more win from their remaining two games to qualify.

“Carl Ikeme is recovering well and the team believes he will be ready if the Super Eagles qualified for the World Cup,” he said.
