Ezekiel Bassey’s move to Paykan of Iran has drawn harsh criticism from a highly placed Barcelona back room staff who broke the news of his loan move to the Catalan side to Owngoalnigeria.com six months ago.
Bassey joined Barcelona on loan from Nigeria League side Enyimba but failed to make a single appearance in his six months stay at the club, which ended in June with the club turning down the chance to make the move permanent.
” His level was just too poor for even training with the B team of Barcelona. What was shocking is that he came to the club at a time when the Nigerian season is heavily on, yet he couldn’t cope”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” He has very poor work ethics. Doesn’t track back to help out in defence and even with his searing pace he hardly troubled defenders in training. The friendly game against a selected team from Malawi showed everyone his level.
” Bassey was substituted after he somehow played the ball back from a promising position in attack. His move to Iran best suit him, even if he spends ten years here he won’t make it . I have never seen a poor player dorn the colours of Barcelona like Bassey.
” He might make it in the future but he has a lot to do especially with his attitude both on and off the pitch. He was contented with the tag of a player of Barcelona. Sadly he no longer has it.
The 23 year old who was once upon a time on the radar of English Premier League side West Ham will spend the season on loan to Paykan of Iran from Enyimba.
