The debate over the possible recall of former Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama back to the team has been settled by coach Gernot Rohr.
Rohr has long hinted his desires to have the 35 year old shot stopper back in the team, and he became more desperate to have him back after first choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
However his goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu warned against his return to the team, stating that his recall could lead to a potential break down in the unity of the team as well as the leadership of the team.
Speaking on a television programme monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com, Rohr explained the rationale behind his decison to bring back Enyeama despite the fine performances of Ikechukwu Ezenwa in their last three games.
” Ezenwa has proved me wrong in my previous assessment of him. He is improving day by day and the left and right footed goalkeeper trainer has given him a nice remark.
” He (Ezenwa) is a very good goalkeeper but I still believe he needs big stage experience like the World Cup, which Enyeama has. Sincerely speaking, I would have loved to have ailing Carl Ikeme who started the qualifying series on a bright note. I hope he regains stength before the tournament.
‘ Unfortunately, experienced Enyeama is currently injured, but we have kept a good communication with him. The most important thing is for him to get a club in January window to be fit”, Rohr said on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) sports programme.
